Porn star August Ames dead at 23. R.I.P. Here are some photos, gifs and videos
August Ames (born Mercedes Grabowski; 23 August 1994 – 5 December 2017) was a Canadian-American pornographic actress and model who appeared in almost 290 movies and was nominated for several AVN Awards throughout her career.
Ames was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, but she was raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, during her teenage years. She was of Polish and African American descent. Both of her parents worked in the army and she spent her early years as a military brat. Her mother suffered from bipolar disorder. Ames alleged that she was routinely sexually molested by her paternal grandfather as a child, but her father refused to believe her and at 12 years old she was sent to live in a group home. In her early years, she worked as a nanny, animal-assisted aide and horseback trainer.
Her career began in November 2013 with companies such as Blacked, Brazzers, Dark X, Elegant Angel, Evil Angel, Girlfriends Films, Lethal Hardcore, Jules Jordan Video, New Sensations and Sweetheart Video.
Some of her best known works were 8Oil Overload, 10 Missing, Big Wet Breasts, Dirty Talk, Don’t Tell Hubby, Flesh Hunter, Naturally Delicious, Raw Talent 3, Safe Landings, Spandex Loads and Titty Attack 8. She appeared in over 270 films during the course of her career. Ames was nominated for four AVN Awards in her lifetime, including three nominations for Female Performer of the Year.
She also appeared as Audrey in the mainstream movie Model for Murder: The Centrefold Killer in 2016.
She was married to Kevin Moore, a pornography producer and director for Evil Angel. Weeks prior to her death, Ames had confirmed that she had a history of bipolar depression and multiple personality disorder due to a traumatic childhood, stating: “Some days I’ll be fine and if I’m not doing anything I’ll get these awful flashbacks of my childhood and I get very depressed and I can’t get out of bed and cancel my scenes for like a week or two”.
On 3 December 2017, two days before her death, Ames received negative Twitter comments for her tweet stating: “whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @EroticaXNews , you’re shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know. BS is all I can say. Do agents really not care about who they’re representing? #ladirect I do my homework for my body. Some Twitter users attacked Ames based on this tweet, but Ames—who was bisexual herself—said that she loved the gay community and that she had a right to exercise her sexual autonomy. The accusations were characterized as cyberbullying.
On 5 December 2017, Ames was found dead in a public park, approximately 20 minutes from her home in Camarillo, California, at the age of 23. Her death was ruled a suicide due to asphyxia by hanging by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. Ames’ brother, her close family, her friend Jenna Jameson and numerous media outlets stated that Ames committed suicide following what they described as cyberbullying. In addition to the claims that cyberbullying caused her death, some news reports have claimed that it was caused by her depression.
